Ithaca: upon every arrival
Multimedia Performance by Gesamtatelier and AAIS
During the period 2016 -2018 I have been in close collaboration with Gesamtatelier and the Architectural Association Interprofessional Studio, invited to contribute to the collective as a choreographer and performer.
The intermedia performance Ithaca: upon every arrival explores the process of integration into a new destination which entails aredefinition of one’s identity and their relationship with space and their body. Five artists and four creative fields, visual art, contemporary dance, sound design and performance art, intertwine and pass through phases inspired by Jacques Lacan’ s “Mirror Stage”: 1) subjectivity, 2) spatial relations, 3) external sense of coherence and 4) sense of “I” and “you”. Each medium has its own role to perform as they invite the audience to witness the sequence of transformations a person experiences upon arriving in his/her Ithaca, until the decision moment. “Is this where I aspire to be?”
Performed as part of the Centre for Dance Research (CDR) events in March 2017
and was deconstructed as a live exhibition at the Architectural Association in February 2018
The live exhibition deconstructs the overall score of the piece and each medium (dance, live painting projections, sound composition and performance art) unrolls its individual timeline. The visitors are invited to explore an immersive environment which documents the original performance, while all four mediums perform their role live, in a reworked composition.
